About the Role

This position is located within the Engineering Service, Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Section of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS), with primary duty station at North Little Rock, AR, and operational responsibility for work performed across both CAVHS campuses (North Little Rock and Little Rock) and associated clinics/sites.

What You'll Do

  • Duties: The Maintenance Supervisor provides technical leadership, administrative oversight, and day-to-day supervision for three functional areas: Carpenter Shop, Locksmith Unit, and the Asbestos Abatement Team.
  • Major duties include but are not limited to.
  • Supervision and Operations: Initiates, scopes, and plans minor construction/renovation projects and complex work orders, to include procuring necessary materials/equipment, executing Quality Control, and maintaining documentation and project files.
  • Sets strategic priorities and allocates labor, materials, and equipment; schedules work to minimize clinical disruption while meeting safety, infection control, and life safety requirements.
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Facilities Projects, Safety, Infection Control, Police Service, and Contracting to align priorities, access, phasing, and compliance requirements.
  • Manages staffing plans, time/attendance, and performance standards; identifies training needs (trade development, asbestos supervisor/refresher, key system administration, safety/LOTO).
  • Technical & Contracting Carpentry (Building and Structures): Plans and supervises structural maintenance, repair, and minor construction across hospital facilities, emphasizing safety, infection control, and uninterrupted operations.
  • Manages exterior/site improvements: concrete/pavement repairs, sidewalks/curbs, drainage structures, fencing, site accessibility features (ADA), and parking/traffic control elements with phased execution Locksmithing & Key Control: Administers master key systems, key issuance/return, audits, and records to maintain security, accountability, and chain-of-custody.
  • Supervises installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, cores, door hardware (closers, panic devices), and electronic access components consistent with life safety, egress, and security requirements.
  • Asbestos Abatement: Oversees identification, containment setup, negative air systems, removal, packaging, chain-of[1]custody, transport, and disposal of ACM in compliance with EPA/NESHAP, OSHA, AHERA, and applicable state/local regulations, coordinating closely with the Safety Office Industrial Hygienist Team for monitoring and compliance support.
  • Ensures air monitoring, clearance testing, and documentation are completed in collaboration with the IH Team; maintains abatement permits, notifications, and closeout records.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensures all work complies with Joint Commission EOC/Life Safety, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, OSHA (hazard communication, PPE, fall protection, LOTO), EPA/NESHAP, AHERA, ADA, and VA TIL/design guides.
  • Leads safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions; maintains readiness for regulatory surveys and accreditation visits; preserves records for compliance verification.
  • License/Certification: COR certification (and refreshers) per agency policy.
