About the Role
This position is located at the Salisbury VAMC in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Facility Management, Salisbury, NC. The Incumbent is responsible for coordinating and completing maintenance on utility systems and building maintenance while working independently on evening and weekend tours.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to: -The incumbent will provide Engineering support and will respond to all Engineering related calls including mechanical, electrical, and other building and equipment maintenance needs.
- →Electrical Systems: -Incumbent will be initial responder to electrical calls. -Incumbent will be responsible for electrical maintenance including troubleshooting and repair of electrical components and controls on HVAC systems. -Incumbent will make electrical repairs including reset of breakers to restore power, and minor repairs to lights, receptacles, and other electrical equipment.
- →Building Maintenance: -Incumbent will be initial responder to wort requests involving building maintenance to walls, floors, ceilings, doors, etc, -Incumbent will make emergency repairs as necessary -All major repairs will be referred to the Building Maintenance Shop.
- →Incumbent must have knowledge skills necessary to operate and maintain steam heating systems including piping, convectors. steam traps, heat exchangers, condensate pumps, etc. -Incumbent must have knowledge and skills necessary to select proper filters for each application when changing HVAC filters.
- →Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; Occasionally, the supervisor may require the employee to change their tour to provide coverage during extended vacancies in positions that ordinarily work second or third shift.
- →Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD02134A Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms.
- →He/she often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty and hard-to-reach locations.
- →The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions.
- →The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds.
- →Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
- →Working Conditions: Exposed frequently to temperature extremes, drafts, dampness, water, and noise for work conditions.
- →The majority of work takes place in an industrial environment but does require work outdoors, exposed to the elements.
- →He will frequently encounter ladders, catwalks, confined spaces, etc.
- →Incumbent could be subjected to hazards normally encountered in the trade.
Requirements
