About the Role
The incumbent is a Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic whose duties include a wide variety of tasks involving specific and general installation, repair, improvement and maintenance skills in the Building Maintenance Shop as part of the Maintenance and Repair Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS), at East Orange/Lyons Campuses of VA New Jersey Health Care System (VA NJHCS).
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but are not limited to the following: Performs daily inspections and repairs to assigned areas including ceiling structures, lighting fixtures, door closures, windows, floor tiles, and walls; reports deficiencies to the supervisor for appropriate disposition.
- →Performs routine and complex installations using masonry, carpentry, and sheet metal skills; constructs and repairs existing structures from building plans, drawings, and verbal directions.
- →Performs masonry work including maintenance, repair, and construction using various brick, block, and stone materials; inspects and maintains smoke/fire barriers.
- →Fabricates, repairs, and constructs items from sheet metal; selects appropriate metals and identifies material characteristics that may cause corrosion or fatigue.
- →Installs and repairs walls, floors, and ceilings; maintains dispensers, handrails, grab bars, guardrails, shelves, windows, ceiling grids, door closures, tiles, and interior/exterior trim.
- →Performs inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment Assists with emergency coordination and supports the supervisor in establishing priorities, time frames, and resource requirements.
- →Maintains adequate shop stock, tools, and materials to support daily operations.
- →Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 08:00 a.m.-4:430 p.m.
