About the Role

This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Southeast Network (VISN 7), VA Augusta Health Care System (VAAHCS) in Augusta, Georgia located in the Department/Service Name. The incumbent is responsible for initiating and carrying out a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the Community Care(CC).

  • The Lead Medical Support Assistant assists the Supervisory Medical Support Assistant with developing contingency plan for data/input/transmission during computer down-time.
  • Maintains suspense files necessary for processing orders for recurring tests.
  • Collaborates, communicates, set priorities, and organizes the work in order to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations.
  • The incumbent screens new consults for non-VA care for eligibility, specialty service requested duplication, and appropriateness of sending patients to community provider.
  • As the Lead MSA the incumbent will provide on-the-job training to new employees.
  • Conducts audits for compliance of the work of the AMSA and remits findings timely to Supervisory MSA.
  • Collaborates with AMSA and Supervisory MSA about AMSA's progress and needs.
  • Responsible for reviewing the work of full performance and developmental AMSAs for accuracy, completeness, using current laws and directives.
  • The incumbent is skilled in tactful and effective communication both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates advance knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care.
  • Assures authorization is obtained from appropriate service chief for procedures performed at non-VA facilities.
  • The Lead MSA assists with contacting Veteran by telephone to explain pending or new consult request.
  • The incumbent ensures that veteran appointments are made with other VA facility, contract site, or community providers of Veteran's choice as appropriate.
