Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist

About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
What You'll Do
- →The Lead CLS identifies, distributes, balances work, coaches, and facilitates with problem solving methods.
- →The Lead CLS prepares reports and maintains records of work status; resolves simple, informal complaints; reports performance, progress, and training needs of the team and on behavioral problems; and provides information on promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Serves as an expert providing authoritative advice and consultation for more markedly difficult, complex, unique, and/or emerging tests requiring special knowledge.
- →Conducts studies and recommends changes to correct deficiencies and improve the specialty area.
- →Recommends new/replacement instrumentation.
- →Advises all organizational levels on various aspects of the specialized testing, including the appropriateness of specific tests and takes into consideration the clinical context and usefulness of the test information.
- →Advises on alternate testing to overcome ambiguities in the clinical diagnoses.
- →Assist and train staff and students on instrumentation, including daily operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- →Identifies, defines, and resolves issues associated with complex aspects of data or unique or controversial aspects of the testing where no direct precedent exists.
- →Applies laws, policies, precedents, regulatory, licensing, and accrediting requirements to establish, monitor, and maintain the specialized testing.
- →Assists with preparation for external reviews (Joint Commission, IG, CAP, FDA, AABB, etc) by reviewing regulatory, licensing and accrediting agency requirements for compliance within the service and recommends changes as appropriate.
- →Maintains process control in a specialty area through a multifaceted quality assurance program.
- →Performs quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
- →Responsible for review of quality control and problem resolution in assigned department.
