About the Role
This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Richmond VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Environmental Management Service, Textile Care Section.
What You'll Do
- →MAJOR DUTIES include but limited to: Laundry Operator Duties 100%: Laundry Machine Operator in the Textile Care Section (TCS) charged with the operation of a variety of laundry production equipment including the tunnel washer/extractor, large dryers (5001b), large washers (600Lb), small washers and dryers, garment finisher and textile finishing equipment.
- →Sorts soiled linens, pre-soaks stained textiles as needed, accurately weighs wash loads to ensure washer/extractors are correctly balanced, wash soiled and unload clean textiles.
- →Ensures washers and dryers are used to their fullest capacities and overloading or under loading does not occur.
- →Utilizes various chemical agents used by the TCS to ensure they are properly used to prevent damage to linens, uniforms and any other textiles processed.
- →Operates the lift and rail system to correctly direct the proper linen to the desired washer/extractor as well as to the appropriate rail storage to be dried or ironed.
- →Selects the correct linen to be washed or dried, to ensure linen flow on the production floor is continuous.
- →Manually adds or deletes specific cycles for specialty items, and selects the correct wash formula for the selected wash load.
- →Operates the cart wash, water and air systems to identify proper operation and the procedure to shut down the equipment if a malfunction occurs.
- →Changes chemicals as required and changes chemical barrels wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE), using a barrel dolly and barrel cap wrench as necessary.
- →Operates the clean side equipment, including garment finisher, small washer, and both large and small dryers.
- →Other duties as assigned.
