About the Role

Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC),or mobile medical unit.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent performs ongoing patient care duties in an outpatient and inpatient clinical settings as well as minor procedures.
  • ICTs may perform tasks as outlined in this Position Description (PD) and in accordance with local policies after documented completion of training and demonstration of appropriate skills and competency.
  • These tasks are not all inclusive and require the demonstration of appropriate training and documented competence prior to their performance.
  • The incumbent may assist with or perform other related approved technical health care procedures under the direction and supervision of the licensed personnel as competency is demonstrated and documented.
  • Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assists licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex and specialized care needs.
  • Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting.
  • Performs treatments and interventions (i.e. nail debridement, callus paring, wound dressings).
  • Performs wound care (i.e. bandaging, application of dressings, wound measurements and Photo-documentation of wounds and skin lesions).
  • Assists with outpatient minor procedures that are not considered basic foot care.
  • Participates in follow-up care such as wound check.
  • Medication Administration Exp: topical, subcutaneous.
  • Assists licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment during in-person or virtual visits.
  • Operates specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Uses doppler ultrasound for arterial examination of the lower extremity.
