Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC),or mobile medical unit.
What You'll Do
- →The incumbent performs ongoing patient care duties in an outpatient and inpatient clinical settings as well as minor procedures.
- →ICTs may perform tasks as outlined in this Position Description (PD) and in accordance with local policies after documented completion of training and demonstration of appropriate skills and competency.
- →These tasks are not all inclusive and require the demonstration of appropriate training and documented competence prior to their performance.
- →The incumbent may assist with or perform other related approved technical health care procedures under the direction and supervision of the licensed personnel as competency is demonstrated and documented.
- →Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assists licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex and specialized care needs.
- →Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting.
- →Performs treatments and interventions (i.e. nail debridement, callus paring, wound dressings).
- →Performs wound care (i.e. bandaging, application of dressings, wound measurements and Photo-documentation of wounds and skin lesions).
- →Assists with outpatient minor procedures that are not considered basic foot care.
- →Participates in follow-up care such as wound check.
- →Medication Administration Exp: topical, subcutaneous.
- →Assists licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment during in-person or virtual visits.
- →Operates specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.
- →Uses doppler ultrasound for arterial examination of the lower extremity.
