Please see Additional Information section below. *** You will serve as an ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER, CHEMIST, TOXICOLOGIST, PHYSICAL SCIENTIST or GEOLOGIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of US NAVAL AIR FACILITY ATSUGI. Salary: GS-0401/13XX-12 range is $76,463 - $99,404 GS-0819-12 range is $79,012 - $101,953
What You'll Do
- →You will be responsible for ensuring the installation's compliance with the Japan Environmental Governing Standards (JEGS).
- →You will be responsible for the implementation and improvement of the facility's solid and hazardous waste management programs particularly in relation to the proper handling, storage, and disposal of solid waste, hazardous material, and waste.
- →You will provide guidance and develop engineering/scientific studies/projects needed to achieve and maintain compliance for solid and hazardous waste, hazardous materials and contaminated sites.
- →You will track solid and hazardous waste disposal costs and quantities to ensure hazardous waste disposal and reuse quantities are tracked to meet targets and objectives.
- →You will identify corrective actions for problems related to solid waste, hazardous waste, and hazardous material management.
- →You will develop response capabilities at each installation and identifies training and equipment necessary for proper response to potential emergencies.
- →You will develop guidance and provides project reviews to ensure incorporation of applicable requirements to the facilities improvement program and minor construction and repair projects as they relate to solid HW/HM generation/storage.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: Environmental Engineering Series, 0819 Basic Requirements: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
- ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. or Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

- ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
- ✓Toxicology Series, 0415 Basic Requirements: Degree: toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology. ***A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
