The primary purpose of this position is to manage and conduct the History Program at Department of the Air Force Agency authorized a historian (hereafter referred to as "agency") at home station and deployed locations.
What You'll Do
- →GS-11: Researches and writes Agency and DAF history.
- →Writes the wing history, emphasizing problems encountered, solutions to these problems, and the command's effectiveness in accomplishing its mission.
- →Conducts special studies and creates other historical products such as oral histories.
- →Provides research and references services.
- →Provides historical services to meet the needs of the commanders and their staffs, as well as other Air Force and government agencies, DoD, and the public.
- →Participates in wartime and contingency operations; deploys to contingency locations.
- →GS-12: Conducts research and writes history.
- →Obtains pertinent data from all available documentary sources by consulting key DAF and tenant personnel.
- →Serves as authoritative advisor, responds to queries, and conducts outreach.
- →Creates special studies, conducts oral history, presents lectures, participates in seminars, and conducts staff visits.
- →Participates in wartime and contingency operations; deploys to contingency locations.
Requirements
- ✓Qualifications Continued: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: GS-11: Knowledge of professional historical principles, concepts, methodology, and techniques including historical and organizational research.
- ✓Knowledge and general understanding of federal government history programs and current operations, policies, programs, and activities.
- ✓Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to use techniques require in conducting oral history interviews.
- ✓Ability to collect, organize, and interrelate large amounts of diversely formatted data (including digital) drawn from a wide variety of sources.
- ✓Ability to prepare a narrative that presents a balanced and realistic picture of the subject.
- ✓Ability to critically evaluate sources of information and establish validity of historical facts.
- ✓GS-12: Knowledge of professional historical principles, projects, concepts, research techniques and sources, and methodology.
- ✓Knowledge of history programs and current policies, programs, and activities, especially as they apply to a large complex installation or center and its mission.
- ✓Knowledge of history program policies and practices to perform organizational research, research planning and support, research projects, research design, and military research.
- ✓Knowledge of effective techniques required to conduct oral history interviews and research.
- ✓Ability to plan detailed and complex studies; anticipate and solve problems; and to collect, organize, and interrelate large amounts of diversely formatted data drawn from a wide variety of sources.
- ✓Ability to critically evaluate sources of information and establish validity of historical facts.
