Health System Specialist - Research Compliance Officer

About the Role
This position is located in the Corporate Compliance Department of the Iowa City VA Health Care System. The department is responsible for promoting institutional integrity through monitoring and oversight of organizational compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The primary purpose of the position is to plan, implement, and oversee a research compliance program that ensures adherence to federal and VA research regulations.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to: Develops, implements, and manages a facility-wide research compliance program to ensure adherence to federal and VA research regulations.
- →Conducts routine and for-cause audits in research compliance areas, including human and animal subjects protections, laboratory safety, research information security, privacy, conflicts of interest, and misconduct.
- →Analyzes audit findings to identify trends, assess risk, and recommend corrective actions or improvements to policies and processes.
- →Serves as facility liaison with the Office of Research Oversight (ORO), participates in ORO workgroups, and coordinates national compliance initiatives.
- →Delivers compliance-related training and education to investigators, research staff, and relevant committees.
- →Advises leadership, administration, and research oversight committees on compliance issues, quality assurance, and performance improvement strategies.
- →Assists in the development, review, and revision of local research policies and procedures to address evolving regulatory standards.
- →Provides routine and ad hoc compliance reports to facility leadership and supports institutional accreditation readiness.
- →Coordinates and facilitates investigations and education related to research misconduct and conflict of interest disclosures.
- →Maintains collaborative relationships across facility research and compliance functions to ensure integrated oversight and resolution of compliance matters.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm OR Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Telework: This position may be authorized for situational telework.
