About the Role

The VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System is recruiting for a Supervisory Health System Specialist (Executive Assistant) This position is in the Office of the Director and manages the various programs through knowledge of and skills in dealing with organizations, methods, funds, supplies, equipment, and other tools or resources of management. He/she performs vital work to support key functions including Compliance, EEO, Public Affairs, Outreach, Quality Management, correspondence management.

What You'll Do

  • Serves as advisor to the Medical Center Director exercising independent responsibility and accountability for the full scope of roles and responsibilities in three functional areas: Public Affairs Program, Outreach Program, and Administration.
  • Supports the delivery of health services at the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) and Community Based Office Clinics (CBOCs) to Veterans.
  • Acts as Principal Health System Specialist (HSS).
  • Devising appropriate methods of securing required information and developing data from such sources as discussions with staff, outside contacts, records, and similar materials.
  • Providing analyses of all aspects of programs to include a review of objectives, policies, operations, and progress, resource estimates, and other related materials.
  • Measuring progress towards objectives and determination of compliance with scheduled timetables.
  • Identifying actual or potential problem areas, trends, significant programs accomplishments, deficient situations, areas of personnel imbalance, or other similar factors in the programs involved.
  • Developing and recommending changes in program management, operations, and resource utilization to correct deficiencies and maintain cost effectiveness.
  • Evaluating the effect of alternative or corrective actions on the programs under consideration, on interrelated programs, and on the overall utilization of manpower, money, and material resources.
  • Presenting conclusions and recommendations based upon analysis and evaluation to the supervisor to use, in insuring efficiency.
  • The incumbent clarifies mission objectives with authority vested in the position by the Director and maximizes performance of the staff by aligning goals and ensuring policies are carried out as determined by top management.
  • Through meetings and informal group discussions, the incumbent is also responsible for promoting the understanding of the VASNHCS mission and creating an atmosphere conducive to quality patient care.
  • Principles of managed care will be applied to support a balanced budget while improving access to care and enhancing quality dynamics.
  • The incumbent develops and maintains correspondence management processes, including development and use of forms in the department's supports.
