The incumbent is assigned to the Medical Staff Office, which is under the Chief of Staff at a VA Medical Center (VAMC) and is responsible for providing administrative and technical direction and support to the credentialing and privileging (C&P) operations. The C&P Specialist is aligned to and supervised by the C&P Manager.
What You'll Do
- →The Health System Specialist - Credentialing & Privileging Specialist ensures compliance with VHA policies, directives, memos and notices of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, recommendations by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and Government Accountability Office (GAO) and other internal or external auditors and reviewers as appropriate.
- →Duties include, but not limited to: Keeps leadership and administrative staff informed of program changes, new regulatory requirements, and policies and procedures.
- →Assists in drafting local credentialing processes in compliance with all applicable regulations.
- →Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act.
- →Provides guidance and instruction to hospital staff in completing the required documentation of establishing privileges for Licensed Independent Providers.
- →Responsible for collecting relevant data and making informed decisions.
- →Develops and provides routine and special reports as requested.
- →Enters data into an electronic credentials computer system.
- →Investigates all discrepancies to determine the accuracy of documentation.
- →Receives and reviews reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation.
- →Assures application packages and other documents meet technical requirements per specialty of provider and assures application folder and database account.
- →Provides quality control checks on data.
- →Prepares agendas for meetings and ensures those involved are notified of expectations.
- →Provides assistance and training to providers, staff and management.
