About the Role

The incumbent serves as a Lead Engineer in the Propulsion, Launchers, and Weapons Systems Branch of the In-Service Submarine Systems Engineering Division (SUB-E57) in TEAM SUBMARINE at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

What You'll Do

  • You will be a Lead Engineer for In-Service Submarine Weapons Systems and Launcher Systems.
  • You will serve as an advisor in applying advanced concepts, principles, and processes for life cycle engineering and management of various In-Service Submarine Weapons Systems and Launcher Systems, subsystems and equipment.
  • You will plan and conduct various engineering development programs/projects that involve continuous systems modification, systems requirement evaluation, and performance analysis affecting In-Service Submarine Weapons Systems and Launcher Systems.
  • You will determine and evaluate the efficiency of adopted improvements to ensure satisfactory progress and fulfillment of requirements.
  • You will provide engineering oversight of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) engineering practices.
  • You will resolve technical problems through expert knowledge of submarine In-Service Submarine Weapons Systems and Launcher Systems design, operations, logistics support practices, and sound technical judgment.
  • You will ensure appropriate systems engineering processes are properly applied during In-Service Submarine Weapons Systems and Launcher Systems life cycle sustainment.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
