What You'll Do

  • You will perform engine company inspections, and building pre-plans, looking for infractions and the locations of local alarm and sprinkler systems, power, water, and gas shutoffs, noting all hazardous storage or conditions inside and outside.
  • You will carry out evacuation drills, reset sprinkler and local alarm systems.
  • You will perform station, grounds, apparatus, and equipment maintenance.
  • You will respond to structure fires, serving as a hydrant man, hose-man, makes forcible entry, ventilates structures, makes rescue, and performs salvage and overhaul operations, and other duties as required.
  • You will respond to downed aircraft or aircraft emergencies, operates hand lines, turrets to control and protect aircrews and rescue men entering the aircraft.
  • You will respond to medical emergencies and provide for the rescue and on scene stabilization for victims of fire, sudden illness, accidental injuries, childbirth and other events requiring medical personnel.
  • You will perform emergency communication duties in the absence of the regularly assigned automotive equipment dispatcher answering all routine and emergency telephone calls, dispatching appropriate personnel, vehicles and equipment.
  • You will use computers and computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems to record all emergency response data, operate and monitor a variety of reporting\recording systems.
  • You will monitor local and off base emergency radio frequencies, maintains dispatch logs, records and reports used by fire department.
  • You will ensure all communication and alarm systems are in a proper state of operational readiness.

Requirements

  • Specialized experience at the GS-05 level may be substituted with the successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study leading to a bachelor degree; OR A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
  • Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
