What You'll Do

  • Serves as the Clinical Specialist for Family Advocacy Program (FAP), Behavioral Programs Branch, Marine and Family Programs Division (MF), Headquarters Marine Corps.
  • Provides policy guidance and other functional support to ensure the quality execution of counseling services on installations addressing a range of behavioral health issues including anxiety, depression, stress, violence, coping and other factors which detract from an individuals behavioral health.
  • As a FAP clinical program specialist, the incumbent uses ingenuity in extending and adapting existing guidelines and in providing for the development of new methods and techniques in the absence of appropriate guidelines.
  • The incumbent provides a framework of guidelines used by behavioral health clinical staff across the Marine Corps and others directly involved with the FAP through professional leadership, guidance, and authoritative consultant services on behavioral health services.
  • Assists in developing program objectives, new performance standards, program evaluation tools, monitoring procedures, and program review criteria.
  • Exercises analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and applies a thorough knowledge of management principles, practices, methods, and techniques to analyze accuracy of planning processes and procedures to recommend improvements.
  • Responds to audit requests for information to brief executive level personnel for their use during programmatic decision making Marine Corps wide.
  • Responsible for assisting in writing and maintaining all FAP clinical service requirements currently seen in the Marine Corps Order on Family Advocacy.
  • Develops partnerships with DoD and other federal agencies impacting behavioral health clinical programs.
  • Represents the Marine Corps in coordination of DoD and Secretary of the Navy (SecNav) policy development to ensure the needs and priorities of the Marine Corps are adequately represented.
  • Makes recommendations for official Marine Corps comments on draft DoD and SecNav policies.
  • Reviews and interprets new and established DoD and DON directives, instructions, and regulations for potential policy or operational impact on the Marine Corps prevention and family support programs.
  • Develops and prepares Marine Corps instructions, operating policies, inspection procedures, and guidelines, and recommends changes and adjustments to assure accomplishments of prevention and family support program goals and objectives in conjunction with the MF mission, strategic plan and vision.
  • Serves as liaison between the Office of the Secretary of Defense, other military services, and HQMC management officials as requested.
