About the Role

You will serve as an ENGINEER/SCIENTIST in the Global Deterrence & Defense Department (GX), Missile Systems Hardware and Test Division (GXW), Missile Test Branch (GXWZ) of NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER. The ND-05 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as the Program Director for the Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonic Accelerator (MACH-XL) program.
  • You will lead the rapid development and demonstration of affordable near-hypersonic and hypersonic All-Up-Rounds (AUR), launcher prototypes, and associated high-speed technologies of this program.
  • You will create and execute comprehensive acquisition plans, with a focus on leveraging Other Transactional Agreements (OTA) to accelerate capability delivery.
  • You will exercise significant technical judgement and authority to manage complex development efforts, from initial digital modeling and design to flight demonstrations and the transition of successful prototypes into scalable production.
  • Offers authoritative technical and programmatic guidance across all aspects of hypersonic weapon systems, including boost-glide, ballistic, and atmospheric flight.
  • You will head multi-disciplinary Project Assessment Teams (PAT) to evaluate technical maturity and manufacturing readiness against strict performance and cost targets.
  • You will regularly update NSWC Crane leadership and senior DoW stakeholders on program status, mission utility, and risk mitigation strategies.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: FOR 0801: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

  • Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
  • Have a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
  • FOR 1501: A.
  • Successful completion of bachelor's or higher degree in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science.
  • Have a combination of experience and education achieved from courses equivalent to a major field of study in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
  • FOR 1515: A.
