About the Role

You will serve as an ENGINEER in the Submarine Structures Code 652 of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-05 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-14 and GS-15.

What You'll Do

  • You will be the spokesperson for assigned knowledge areas (CD 15.02 R and Sub Pressure Hull Structure, CD 15.03 Experimental Model D and T of Pressure Vessels), providing technical guidance, oversight, and strategic direction.
  • You will oversee knowledge area management plans, including annual capability assessments, manpower capacity reviews, and the development of quality management guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • You will execute, review, and provide guidance for technical tasks, work products, and reports aligned with the assigned knowledge areas.
  • You will require expert knowledge of submarine structure design, failure mechanisms, design procedures, and design philosophy, including pressure hull shell and frames, tanks, bulkheads and deep submergence system structures.
  • You will require broad-based knowledge of submarine technologies including shock, hydrodynamics, and acoustics as they pertain to structural design and impact.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
