In this position you will serve as the Emergency Management Specialist for the National Preparedness Directorate. The ideal candidate for the Emergency Management Specialist position will possess strong advisory skills and demonstrate expertise in supporting national preparedness operations.
What You'll Do
- →What will I do in this position if hired?
- →In this position, you will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist.
- →These duties involve a mix of technical analysis, administrative tasks, and collaborative efforts to ensure the agency's preparedness and operational efficiency.
- →Typical assignments include: Supporting the development and implementation of exercises to evaluate the Department's emergency preparedness and response capabilities for all hazards, disasters, and homeland security threats.
- →Preparing clear, concise written materials and conduct data-driven analysis for inclusion in exercise documentation, after-action reports, and related products.
- →Assisting with, and eventually leading, project management activities for multi-phase planning initiatives, including tracking section-wide tasks, developing performance visualization products, and conducting data collection and analysis.
- →Coordinating and facilitating large stakeholder planning meetings and events, demonstrating professionalism and tact, and negotiating among parties to achieve effective outcomes.
- →Collaborating with cross-functional teams across all levels of the organization, maintaining a strong customer service orientation.

- →Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites.
- →All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.
- →Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
- →Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.
