About the Role

The purpose of the position is to direct electrical employees, train employees, install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. The position is located at the Philadelphia (Michael J. Crescenz) VA Medical Center.

What You'll Do

  • Performs journeyman level electrician duties.
  • Traces hard to locate defects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations.
  • Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Leads five or more other workers (twelve WG-2805-10, Electricians) to accomplish maintenance and labor work as a paramount requirement with enough skill in and knowledge of the trades and labor work performed by the group led to effectively carry out the duties of a work leader.
  • The Electrician Leader is responsible for leading, planning, coordinating, prioritizing, assigning, and overseeing work assigned to the Electricians within the shop.
  • Provides troubleshooting assistance if needed and training to lower grade personnel.
  • Assumes associated responsibilities of the Electrician Supervisor in their absence.
  • Conducts day to day work assignments for Electrical employees, tracks supply orders and budget reports reportable to the Maintenance Supervisor, records and maintains Joint Commission reportable items, implements, and reports the electrical preventive maintenance program, and controls inventory for electrical equipment and tools.
  • Working Conditions: The incumbent's work is performed mostly inside, occasionally outside and is usually dusty and di1ty.
  • The incumbent is sometimes required to make installations and repairs in hard-to-reach areas.
  • The incumbent is frequently exposed to possible cuts and bruises and occasionally is exposed to electrical shock and bums.
  • Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided for use by staff to minimize any potential injury in accordance with industry standards.
  • Work may be assigned at other locations under the jurisdiction of the Wilkes-Barre Medical Center which requires the incumbent to travel to and from the site in a Government Owned Vehicle (GOV); i.e., the Community Based Outpatient Clinics and Scranton Vet Center.
