The Aircraft Certification Service is a world-class organization of engineers, scientists, inspectors, test pilots, and aviation experts who lead the oversight of aircraft design, production, certification, and continued airworthiness programs supporting the safety and innovation of U.S. and international civil aviation.
What You'll Do
- →The Director, Integrated Certificate Management Division, is responsible for executive oversight of integrated certification initiatives at the airplane level, based on product safety and organizational system performance.
- →The Director leads strategic initiatives for integrated product teams on type certification and continued operational safety for products at the top of the safety continuum.
- →The Director leads and develops Aircraft Certification Service-wide mission strategies to integrate large air carrier activities and the personnel who perform the accompanying functions, and to ensure consistent application between domestic and foreign applicants.
- →The Director oversees and administers an annual budget of approximately $66M and provides day-to-day direction to a staff of approximately 250 employees, including direct supervision over two L-band deputy directors.
- →Specific responsibilities include: Leads AIR's engagement in the development and use of integrated continued operational safety (COS) activities.
- →Represents AIR positions at COS events, industry conferences, and other civil aviation authority meetings on a variety of topics, including oversight of Safety Review Boards.
- →Facilitates partnership between the FAA and external stakeholders to achieve COS shared objectives.
- →Supports aerospace innovation by leading efforts to develop a clear pathway to certification for applicants at the top of the safety continuum.
- →Takes a proactive role to develop innovative solutions for new means of integrated oversight, product safety, and certification.
- →Facilitates innovation through industry and stakeholder outreach to promote greater efficiencies within AIR's certification processes to allow for more consistent decision-making with both domestic and international applicants.
- →Leads the development and management of AIR-wide integrated certification projects, at the airplane level, based on product safety and organizational system performance.
- →These projects drive early FAA engagement with stakeholders emphasizing applicant accountability and ensure that FAA involvement is determined by applicant and product performance, as identified through oversight.
- →Provides executive leadership, ensuring the alignment of division resources, activities, and stakeholders with the AIR mission, as well as higher-level agency strategic objectives.
- →The incumbent ensures the development of personnel and resources consistent with AIR's future needs and incorporates the division's collective knowledge and experience to overall AIR strategic planning, goal setting, and management.
