About the Role

The Department of the Interior is currently seeking qualified candidates for the Senior Executive Service (SES) position of Director, Dam Safety & Infrastructure located in Lakewood, CO. The Department structures its SES positions into categories to determine the minimum pay for each position. This is a Category 3 position. The minimum pay for this position is $197,200. Pay is set based on consideration of the selectee's current salary and other factors.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent carries out the following specific responsibilities: Serves as the as the principal off icer to provide oversight and guidance of western water infrastructure for Reclamation including the development and promulgation of broad policy, implementation guidance, and technical standards that will govern Reclamation natural resources and technical standards.
  • Manages the modernization and challenging efforts of years-long infrastructure projects to ensure the reliability, safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness of Reclamation's infrastructure to ensure water deliveries and power generation.
  • Advises the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners regarding the development and execution of Reclamation objectives and policies for dam safety and its infrastructure by establishing policies and implementing procedures for Reclamation-wide programs.
  • Establishes policies and directives that address implementation of program goals, standards, and restrictions of Reclamation's Dam Safety and Asset Management programs, and its management of assets to include: Reclamation-wide lands, realty, recreation including wildland fire management; leading Reclamation-wide Operations and Maintenance programs.
  • Oversees continued structural integrity and operational reliability of facilities and the ongoing maintenance of an asset inventory of Reclamation's constructed assets, Capital Asset and Resource Management Application, cost trend data, Capital Investment Repair Needs, Strategic Asset Management Plan, and the implementation the Infrastructure Investment Strategy.
  • Develops program plans, budgetary requests, and the preparation of submissions for congressional review and evaluates the status of these activities to brief appropriate senior leadership.
  • Represents Reclamation as the lead executive for the Department's Working Group on Dam Safety and Security to provide guidance, oversight, and training to other Department bureaus and offices with dam safety responsibilities.
  • This includes representing the Department on Interagency Committee on Dam Safety and the National Dam Safety Review Board.
  • Collaborates with senior officials within the Department, Congress, and other Federal Agencies that require close coordination, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S.
  • Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Energy, and Western Area Power Administration.

  • Public Financial Disclosure (OGE-278 filing within 30 days is required) This position may require pre and post-employment drug screening.

  • Selections are subject to Department approval.
  • Initial appointments to the SES must have to undergo an ECQ based structured interview with Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
  • Required to serve a one-year Senior Executive Service probationary period.
  • Individuals selected for an SES position are subject to reassignment Agencies must request OPM approval to appoint current or former (within 5 years) Executive Branch political appointees to permanent competitive service, non-political excepted service, or career SES position.
  • You must be able to obtain/maintain a Tier 5 background investigation.
  • This position sensitivity is Critical Sensitive, Top-Secret.
  • There is no positive educational requirement for this position.
