About the Role

The Director of Artemis Safety and Mission Assurance Office is responsible for the integration, analysis, and disposition of key safety risks across human-rated, Category 1 programs, spanning multiple Artemis missions. This includes oversight of safety assurance processes, risk management frameworks, and the coordination of safety-related activities across Artemis and associated programs.

What You'll Do

  • The Director Artemis Safety and Mission Assurance Office: Leads the integration of safety and mission assurance activities across Artemis missions, ensuring consistent application of safety standards and practices for all human-rated, Category 1 programs.
  • Oversees the identification, analysis, and disposition of key safety risks, collaborating with program managers, engineering teams, and external partners to ensure risks are mitigated and managed effectively.
  • Coordinates safety assurance efforts across multiple Artemis missions, facilitating cross-program communication and alignment with HSMD priorities.
  • Implements governance reforms and process simplification to accelerate safety decision-making and reduce bureaucratic obstacles, consistent with Agency-wide efforts Represents Artemis safety interests in Agency-wide forums, external reviews, industry partnerships, and international dialogues, ensuring transparency and accountability in safety practices.
  • Drives continuous improvement in safety assurance processes, leveraging lessons learned from previous Artemis missions and integrating best practices from across NASA and industry.
  • Assesses the significance, technical quality, and effectiveness of SMA data and information presented at major program reviews held by or for the Artemis Program Office, including those performed in support of the NASA Program Management Council.
  • Formulates the resources required for the integrated SMA function through Agency Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution processes and manages the Artemis SMA resources.
  • Oversees the development and execution of schedules for integrated SMA products across the Artemis Programs.
  • Leads the integration of safety and mission assurance activities across Artemis missions, ensuring consistent application of safety standards and practices for all human-rated, Category 1 programs.
