About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program , a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →Physician for primary care delivery to a panel of patients whose primary areas of responsibility will involve performance of and documentation of health care delivery for Veterans according to Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) and Durham Health Care System (HCS) standards.
- →This physician will be fully qualified and certified to function in both a clinical and administrative role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Durham Veterans Affairs Health Care System.
- →This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to Veteran care.
- →This is a dual clinical and administrative role.
- →Functions of Scope Assigned Clinical: Primary Care Physician will be responsible for delivery of primary care to patients enrolled at the Durham VA HCS.
- →The provider will manage scheduled and unscheduled patients in the outpatient clinic setting.
- →Primary focus of practice is the independent clinical evaluation of Veterans including prevention and patient self-management.
- →Comprehensive primary care will be provided to male and female Veterans.
- →Care may be provided in many modalities including direct face to face care and virtual care (including telephonic, video, secure messaging, and others).
- →Promotes, directs, evaluates, and manages clinical concerns that are found during these evaluations and is responsible requesting referrals, if consult services are needed.
- →Functions as a member or in support of a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), collaborating with clinical and administrative support to provide timely, quality, coordinated care for Veterans.
- →Utilizes and promotes approved standards of care, procedures, methods and techniques, safety precautions and protocols in their application to this population in all settings.
- →Collaborates with other health care staff/resources to ensure continuity of care.
- →Keeps abreast of latest trends, skills, procedures, and protocols relevant in the area of specialty and serves as a resource person for the medical staff.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- ✓The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
