About the Role

The Department of the Interior is currently seeking qualified candidates for the Senior Executive Service (SES) position of Deputy Director for Administration and Programs located in Washington, DC. The Department structures its SES positions into categories to determine the minimum pay for each position. This is a category 1 position. The minimum pay for this position is $207,060. Veterans preference does not apply to the SES.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent carries out the following specific responsibilities: 1.
  • The Deputy Director, Administration and Programs will be responsible for managing and leading the Assistant Directors in the Headquarters and State Directors across the United States while overseeing policy formulation, implementation, and administration of BLM programs. 2.
  • The incumbent serves as a principal advisor to the Director and is responsible for coordinating the formulation and development of, as well as the implementation of, Bureau objectives, policies, and programs.
  • The incumbent discharges the authority and responsibility of the Director for administering assigned programs, developing regulations necessary to implement programs, and providing direction for functions of a diverse and complex nature. 3.
  • The incumbent is responsible for interpreting, transmitting, and applying the Director's policy and program objectives, and gives leadership and guidance to all management processes involved in the direction, coordination, and integration of day-to-day internal office activities. 4.
  • The incumbent serves on top-level Department and interagency committees concerned directly or indirectly with matters affecting the interests of the Bureau and provides active support and defense for the programs and policies of the Administration, Department, and the BLM, defending them as necessary against the demands of conflicting interest groups, user groups, and other outside parties.
