About the Role
The position is at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration in the Financial Management Service. The position serves as the Assistant Chief of Financial Management Service, providing assistance, advice and consultation to the Chief Financial Officer on all matters related to budgetary and accounts management for the medical center.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties to include but not limited to: Serves as a full assistant to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- →Functions in an acting capacity in the absence of the CFO, technically responsible for the full range of fiscal activities.
- →Assists the CFO by advising of current historical data necessary for formulating the annual budget program to the Associate Medical Center Director.
- →Assists in assembling, preparing, and justifying the station's annual budget plan.
- →Serves as technical advisor for managers and service chiefs of GLAVHCS on all financial matters.
- →Briefs the GLAVHCS Director and Executive Leadership Team members on budgetary and accounting program progress and concern.
- →Direct supervision of the following departments: Administrative Officer, Data Management Analyst, Financial Auditor, VERA Coordinator, Agent Cashier, Chief of Accounting, Chief of Budget, and Travel Coordinator.
- →Works with the accounting section and ensures a comprehensive accounting system, including asset, liability, expense, income, budgetary and capital accounts.
- →Requires experience in professional accounting and mature and extensive grasp of the integrated accounting system.
- →Reviews completed work of the staff and provides feedback to encourage top performance to enhance a team atmosphere.
- →Directs and promotes the use of advanced techniques in budgeting, management, finance and accounting, and manpower management.
- →Provides expert advice and recommendations for innovation approaches and solutions of facility financial operations.
- →Advises and makes recommendations on financial policies, procedures and other fiscal matters, and briefs management on new directives and policies.
- →Initiates, conducts and supervises special projects designed to improve the performance and efficiency of the Financial Management Service.
