About the Role
The position is at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration in the Financial Management Service. The primary purpose of the position is to assist the CFO in everyday management responsibilities in close relationship with the Facility Director, staff and operating Officials from the various Services of the Medical Center. Temporary Promotion NTE 120 days. Travel expenses are authorized and this position may lead to a permanent selection.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties to include but not limited to: Serves as a full assistant to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- →Functions in an acting capacity in the absence of the CFO, technically responsible for the full range of fiscal activities.
- →Assists the CFO by advising of current historical data necessary for formulating the annual budget program to the Associate Medical Center Director.
- →Acts for the CFO in resolving most internal matters within the service, keeping the CFO advised daily on such actions.
- →Assists in assembling, preparing, and justifying the station's annual budget plan.
- →Serves as technical advisor for managers and service chief of the GLAVHCS on all financial matters.
- →Briefs the GLAHCS Director and Executive Leadership Team members on budgetary and accounting program progress and concerns.
- →Direct supervision of the following departments: Administrative Officer, Data Management Analyst, Financial Auditor, VERA, Coordinator, Agent Cashier, Chief of Accounting, Chief of Budget, and Travel Coordinator.
- →Works with the accounting section and ensures a comprehensive accounting system, including asset, liability, expense, income, budgetary and capital accounts.
- →Requires experience in professional accounting and mature and extensive grasp of the integrated accounting system.
- →Reviews completed work of the staff and provides feedback to encourage top performance to enhance a team atmosphere.
- →Directs and promotes the use of advanced techniques in budgeting, management, finance and accounting and manpower management.
- →Provides expert advice and recommendations for innovative approaches and solutions of facility financial operations.
- →Advises and makes recommendations on financial policies, procedures and other fiscal matters, and brief management on new directives and policies.
