At the Indian Health Service, Contract Specialists acquire supplies and services that support healthcare for American Indian and Alaska Native communities. They manage acquisitions from planning through closeout while ensuring compliance and mission success. Reports to IHS Headquarters. Duty stations available in Rockville, MD, and nationwide at IHS Area Offices and field locations. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
What You'll Do
- →Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Contract Specialist Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Plans and leads complex pre award and post award contracting activities for healthcare related supplies, services, construction, information technology, research, and professional service acquisitions.
- →Develops acquisition strategies, prepares acquisition documentation, conducts cost and price analyses, negotiates contract terms, and awards contracts within delegated authority.
- →Administers complex contracts by negotiating modifications, resolving performance issues, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing contract closeout or termination actions.
- →Advises program officials and senior leadership on acquisition planning, procurement strategies, regulatory requirements, and contracting risks to support mission objectives.
- →Leads multidisciplinary acquisition teams and provides technical guidance and mentoring to Contract Specialists and other acquisition professionals.
Requirements
- ✓Selectee may be subject to a probationary period ESEP appointees typically serve a two year trial period U.S.
- ✓Citizenship is required Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.

- ✓Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
- ✓A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individual's identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service.
- ✓Upon receipt of instructions, applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance.
- ✓Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability.
