At the Indian Health Service, Contract Specialists acquire the supplies and services that support quality healthcare for American Indian and Alaska Native communities. They manage acquisitions from planning through closeout while ensuring compliance, stewardship, and mission success. Duty locations are available at IHS Area Offices and field locations nationwide. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
What You'll Do
- →Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Contract Specialist Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Plans and executes pre award and post award contracting activities for healthcare related supplies, services, construction, and information technology acquisitions.
- →Prepares solicitation documents, conducts market research, evaluates proposals, negotiates contract terms, and recommends contract awards.
- →Administers contracts throughout the acquisition lifecycle by negotiating modifications, resolving contract issues, monitoring contractor performance, and completing contract closeout activities.
- →Interprets and applies Federal acquisition regulations and agency policies while providing acquisition guidance to program officials and maintaining compliant contract documentation.
- →Collaborates with program officials, legal counsel, finance staff, and technical experts to deliver timely acquisition solutions that support the Indian Health Service mission.
Requirements
- ✓Selectee may be subject to a probationary period ESEP appointees typically serve a two year trial period U.S.
- ✓Citizenship is required Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 FAC C Professional certification required within 36 months of appointment.
- ✓Must have a valid bank account for direct deposit.
- ✓Certain duty locations include positions designated under Public Law 101 630, which involve contact with or control over Indian children.

- ✓Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
- ✓A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individual's identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service.
- ✓Upon receipt of instructions, applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance.
- ✓Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability.
