This Concessions Management Specialist position will be duty-stationed at Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah. This is a full-time, permanent position with career-ladder potential to GS-09. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 08/13/2026 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.
What You'll Do
- →Customer Service and Collaboration: Serves as a liaison between commercial service providers and NPS divisions/park staff.
- →Asset Management: Periodically evaluates concession facilities to evaluate concessioner maintenance plan accomplishments.
- →Business Acumen: Reviews and develops an understanding of information related to concessioner and Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) operations.
- →Monitoring and Evaluation: Critically reviews and evaluates required reports, programs, documents, and other data (e.g., annual maintenance plans, risk management programs, environmental management programs) to confirm compliance with terms and conditions of the contract.
- →Legal Framework: Demonstrates knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and contract provisions in order to monitor compliance by commercial service operations.
- →Commercial Services Development: Participates in commercial services planning in order to provide necessary and/or appropriate services through concession contracts and CUAs.
- →Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
- →Physical Demands: Concession facilities include (but are not limited to) front and back of the house locations at hotels, commercial kitchens, restaurants, retail facilities, warehouses, employee housing, stable operations, marinas, and assigned landscapes.
- →While some work is performed in an office setting, the position requires familiarity with park resources and concession facilities and services which may include may require hiking on park backcountry trails, overnight stays in the backcountry which require carrying a heavy backpack, horseback riding, bicycling, rafting, extensive walking, etc.
- →There may be some requirements to travel on water vessels and small aircraft.
- →A current driver's license may be required.
- →Work Environment: For work conducted in the office environment, the risks include those typically found in an office environment.
- →Normal safety precautions typical of such places should be observed (e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls,).
- →Travel within and away from the park area may be necessary and frequent in order to provide support for the program for the purpose of attending meetings, training programs, conferences, and site visits.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- ✓Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required.
- ✓DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓DRIVER'S LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
- ✓You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
- ✓You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- ✓UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- ✓TRAVEL: You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally.
- ✓You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- ✓PROBATIONARY PERIOD: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period.
