About the Role
Proficient in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning. Delivers an understanding of adult learning and a lifelong learner that can adapt or change learning strategies based on the assessment of learning needs within the healthcare organization. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates educational needs to facilitate learner development and skill training of clinical staff. Responsible for the coordination of education focused on staff, self-management, and customer satisfaction.
What You'll Do
- →Responsible for providing competent, evidence-based education to staff.
- →Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units.
- →Understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training.
- →Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for clinical staff within organization.
- →Assists with the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and development and implementation of a learning plan for improving identified deficiencies.
- →Serves as a trainer and consultant for Resuscitation Education Initiative (Redi) Program including certification as Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advance Life Support (ALS) instructor.
- →Evaluate educational outcomes and develop a plan for follow up education as indicated.
- →Participate in workshop/continuing education programs designed for career advancement as well as function in classroom teaching environments and clinical arenas.
- →Supports nurse residency programs including the development of curriculum utilizing strategic learning methodologies such as simulation, lecture case studies and virtual reality.
- →Collaborates with other Clinical Nurse Educators and interprofessional healthcare teams in the ongoing clinical education activities including in-services, training, competency assessment, and evaluations of both current and new staff nursing skills.
- →Will function as Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) facility trainer to provide formal/informal/virtual/in person instruction to clinicians and support staff on how to safely and effectively manage all types of patient generated disruptive behaviors.
- →The Clinical Nurse Educator must meet facility trainer.
- →Maintain PMDB Facility trainer certification status, including attending trainings to ensure such status.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
