This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →The Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Ancillary Testing Coordinator (CLS-ATC) develops and recommends policies and procedures for procurement and service requirements for ancillary testing (testing outside the physical confines of the main laboratory) as mandated by VHA that include ensuring CLIA licenses are maintained for off-site facilities such as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC).
- →The CLS consults with leadership of clinical services to identify ancillary testing needs, analyzes emerging trends and technology, and adopts appropriate methods.
- →The CLS serves as a recognized technical expert to provide authoritative advice, training, troubleshooting, quality assessment and ancillary testing program consultation.
- →Duties include but are not limited to: The CLS-ATC oversees the ancillary testing program for the Hampton VA Medical Center..
- →Recommends, develops, writes, and implements policies and procedures for the procurement and service requirements for ancillary or point-of-care testing equipment and instrumentation.
- →Ensures the appropriate correlation among different instrumentation and methodologies.
- →Validates all new testing procedures prior to implementation of tests to the facility.
- →Trains, evaluates, and documents the competency of a variety of individuals (physicians, mid-level practitioners, nurses, and other hospital staff as appropriate) in the performance of ancillary testing procedures and in the reporting of test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently.
- →Trains, evaluates, and documents competency of hospital staff in the procurement and processing of laboratory specimens for the Hampton VA Medical Center.
- →Educates hospital staff on laboratory policies and procedures when assigned by the Laboratory Manger or Chief, P&LMS.
- →Serves as a recognized technical expert (technical consultant or technical supervisor as mandated by CLIA) to provide authoritative laboratory advice and ancillary testing program consultation in areas of quality control/assurance, records control, proficiency testing, inspection, and accreditation to all levels of the organization.
- →Evaluates ancillary testing activities to assess ongoing day-to-day compliance with established protocols and guidelines.
- →Recommends policy/protocol changes to correct deficiencies and improve the program.
- →Creates, applies, and monitors reengineering and continuous performance improvement initiatives, both within the program and/or the organization.
