The Pittsburgh VAMC is looking for a Psychiatrist to serve as their Chief of Psychiatry. The Chief Psychiatrist is accountable to the Associate Chief of Staff, Behavioral Health for administering management of the day-to-day operations of the clinical and administrative practices and staff across all components of the behavioral health care program, spanning across the two campuses, and 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
What You'll Do
- →Major Responsibilities - Chief of Psychiatry include: Clinical Leadership Provide oversight and direction for all inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services across the facility.
- →Provide oversight and direction for all medical services provided within behavioral health service line.
- →Ensure delivery of evidence-based mental health care consistent with VHA clinical practice guidelines.
- →Serve as the senior clinical authority on complex, high-risk, or escalated psychiatric cases.
- →Maintain a personal clinical caseload as assigned.
- →Administrative & Operational Management Direct day-to-day operations of the psychiatry service line, including scheduling, access, and clinic flow.
- →Manage productivity, wait times, and access standards in alignment with VHA performance metrics.
- →Participate in resource allocation, space utilization, and equipment needs.
- →Develop, implement, and monitor service-level policies and standard operating procedures.
- →Personnel & Workforce Management Supervise psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, and other assigned mental health/medical staff.
- →Lead recruitment, credentialing/privileging coordination, onboarding, and retention efforts.
- →Conduct performance evaluations, professional practice evaluations (OPPE/FPPE), and address performance concerns.
- →Manage physician scheduling, on-call coverage, and workload distribution.
- →Quality, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, VHA directives, and other regulatory standards.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
