About the Role

The Department of the Interior is currently seeking qualified candidates for the Senior Executive Service (SES) position of Chief, Division of Budget and Program Review, located in Washington, DC. The Department structures its SES positions into categories to determine the minimum pay for each position. This is a category 5 position. The minimum pay for this position is $151,200. Veterans preference does not apply to the SES.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent carries out the following specific responsibilities: 1.
  • The Chief, Division of Budget and Program Review (Chief), is responsible for budgetary analysis, development of recommendations, and implementation of approved budget changes supporting Departmental objectives.
  • In this role the incumbent advises the Budget Director on budgetary requirements, long and short-term analyses, and application of the Administration's budgetary policies.
  • The incumbent directs and coordinates the responsibility of the Division for budget examination, analysis and related activities. 2.
  • The Chief, is responsible for comprehensive review of cross-cutting programs designed to examine objectives and policies; evaluate performance, costs, and staffing; and develop options, suggestions, and recommendations for redirection, performance improvement, and improved efficiency as appropriate and in cooperation with bureaus and offices. 4.
  • The Chief, identifies and recommends steps in the budget process to further accomplishment of the Department's strategic goals; steps to further budget-performance integration; and strategies, initiatives, and crosscuts that further management excellence. 5.
  • The Chief, coordinates and participates in establishment of budget guidance and strategy, taking into account Administration and Departmental policies, legislative and fiscal constraints and the need for a budget that balances the requirements of the diverse components of the Department.
  • Recommends adoption of the guidance by the Director for approval by the Deputy Assistant Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Secretary.
