The Office of Legal Policy (OLP) supports the Attorney General in judicial selection processes and coordinates regulatory review across DOJ components. OLP also advances technical, scientific, and data-informed policy capacity in support of DOJ's mission to uphold the rule of law, protect civil rights, and ensure national security.
What You'll Do
- →This position is located in the Office of Legal Policy (OLP), U.S.
- →Department of Justice (DOJ).
- →OLP develops and implements significant Department policy initiatives; coordinates regulatory actions across DOJ components; manages special projects implicating multiple components; and serves as the principal policy advisor to the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General.
- →The Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO)/Chief Science and Technology Advisor (CSTA) serves as the Department's senior executive advisor on artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, science, data, forensic technology, and related technological innovation.
- →The incumbent is the principal official responsible for coordinating enterprise AI governance, promoting responsible innovation, managing AI risk, and ensuring compliance with applicable law and federal policy guidance.
- →The CAIO/CSTA represents DOJ's science and technology objectives to federal interagency bodies, industry, academia, international partners, and the public.
- →The position reports to the Assistant Attorney General for OLP or as otherwise delegated. 1.
- →Serves as the Department's senior executive authority for AI and science policy integration 2.
- →Provides executive direction to enable responsible AI innovation 3.
- →Leads enterprise-level AI risk management and oversight 4.
- →Serves as DOJ's senior science and technology executive
Requirements
- ✓Conditions of Employment: You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- ✓Veterans' preference is not applicable to the Senior Executive Service.
- ✓Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st, 1959.
- ✓Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.
- ✓You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check for the security level designated for this position.
- ✓You will be required to undergo a drug screening and obtain favorable results prior to being appointed.
- ✓You may be subject to a one-year probationary period effective from the date in which you are appointed.
- ✓This position requires you to submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) upon entry, and annually thereafter in accordance with DOJ and Federal ethics guidelines.
- ✓You must meet all minimum qualifications to be deemed eligible.
- ✓Only experience obtained by closing date of this announcement will be considered.
- ✓As a basic requirement for entry into the SES, applicants must provide evidence of progressively responsible leadership experience that is indicative of senior executive level management capability and directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the Mandatory Technical Qualifications and Executive Core Qualifications.
- ✓This job does not have an education qualification requirement; however, an advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, or related field is highly desired.
