About the Role

The Office of Investor Education and Assistance is seeking a Supervisory Attorney Adviser (Branch Chief). As a Branch Chief, you will supervise the investor assistance attorneys and specialists who respond to questions and complaints from individual investors relating to a variety of investment related matters, including securities regulation, SEC operations and regulated entities.

What You'll Do

  • In this role as a Branch Chief - Investor Assistance Branch, you will be responsible for: Managing, assigning, and coordinating the work of assistance team attorneys and specialists who evaluate, triage, and respond to investor complaints and inquiries.
  • Setting priorities and preparing schedules for, and coordinating, completion of work for your Branch.
  • Reviewing and approving correspondence drafted by members of your Branch addressed to investors, regulated SEC entities, and other SEC offices.
  • Supervising staff responding to OIEA-specific FOIA requests.
  • Working collaboratively with OIEA staff to optimize internal processes and procedures to align OIEA's activities with the SEC's mission.
  • Coordinating with OIEA staff and other SEC Divisions and Offices to identify emerging trends and issues and develop recommendations accordingly.
  • Developing procedures and responses to investors regarding market events, regulated entities, and allegations of securities law violations.

  • If you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, you must submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts or equivalent by the closing date of the announcement.
  • Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S.
  • Department of Education.
  • Internal Applicants: OHR will verify education qualifications for internal applicants using documents in the Electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF).
  • If required transcripts or certificates are not present in your eOPF, you will be required to provide them to OHR.
  • If selected, a start date will not be established until official transcripts are received.
  • FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs.
