About the Role

The United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Southern District of Florida (SDFL) is seeking qualified, experienced attorneys to serve as Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) in our Collateral Litigation Section within the Criminal Division. The incumbent will conduct, supervise, and litigate legal privilege matters and filter reviews. AUSAs may be hired for a position in any of our offices throughout the District, located in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

What You'll Do

  • Generally, as an AUSA in the Collateral Litigation Section specializing in filter review and privilege matters, the incumbent assists and reports to the Chief receiving guidance and direction for planning and accomplishing the significant privilege-related matters and initiatives within the Section.
  • Additionally, the incumbent: Handles the review of potentially protected and privileged materials to ensure that AUSAs in all sections sections comply with their ethical obligations with regard to legal privilege.
  • Works directly with federal law enforcement to ensure investigative agents and prosecutors are not exposed to potentially privileged materials.
  • Engages in all phases of litigation of privilege matters, including, but not limited to, the use of grand jury, advising federal law enforcement agents, preparing appropriate pleadings, and litigating motions and privilege matters before U.S.
  • District Courts across the country.
  • In collaboration with section Chief, develops and maintains the Section's program to ensure that all AUSAs attorneys comply with their ethical obligations related to legal privilege, including advising on strategy and legal complexities, and developing litigation priorities, policy and legislative recommendations.
  • Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
  • Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.

Requirements

  • Applicants must possess a J.D.
  • Degree Required: Proof of active bar membership must be submitted along with your application.
