What You'll Do

  • The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin (USAO) is seeking an exceptional attorney to join our team as an Assistant U.S.
  • Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Division.
  • The USAO handles a wide variety of challenging and impactful criminal and civil cases and has responsibility for the region covering 28 countries in roughly the eastern one-third of the state.
  • The USAO has its main office in Milwaukee and a branch office in Green Bay.
  • This position will be located in the Milwaukee office.
  • Civil Division AUSAs are responsible for prosecuting and defending civil cases on behalf of the federal government and its employees.
  • Civil Division AUSAs investigate and litigate fraud cases, including healthcare, public benefits, and procurement fraud, enforce civil rights laws, and seek civil penalties against individuals and companies for violating statutes like the Controlled Substances Act.
  • Civil Division AUSAs also defend federal agencies in a wide variety of civil actions, including cases involving immigration matters, employment discrimination, torts (personal injuries and medical malpractice), constitutional claims, and bankruptcy matters.
  • This position will focus on representing the United States in civil immigration matters, such as defending habeas corpus, mandamus, and Administrative Procedure Act matters.
  • The position will also handle other civil matters as assigned based on office needs and workload.
  • Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
  • Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication.
  • This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
  • In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
