What You'll Do

  • The United States Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced and motivated attorney to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Criminal Division.
  • Assistant U.S.
  • Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Criminal Division direct the investigation and prosecution of diverse federal offenses.
  • The caseload encompasses, but is not limited to, a broad spectrum of criminal litigation, including violent crime, sophisticated financial fraud, public corruption, human trafficking, narcotics distribution, and national security matters.
  • AUSAs are responsible for the entire litigation lifecycle, from providing legal guidance during the investigative stage to representing the United States at sentencing and asset forfeiture proceedings.
  • Key Duties & Expectations The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to: Lead Investigations: Partner with federal law enforcement agencies to develop and execute complex investigative strategies.
  • Grand Jury Practice: Manage all aspects of grand jury proceedings, including subpoenas, witness testimony, and the presentation of evidence.
  • Independent Litigation: Manage a demanding docket of moderate-to-high complexity cases with minimal supervision, demonstrating superior oral advocacy and written work product.
  • Adaptive Expertise: Quickly master new substantive areas of law and Department of Justice policies in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Responsibilities will increase, and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
