What You'll Do
- →The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina is seeking an outstanding attorney to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Appellate Division in Raleigh.
- →The Appellate Division is responsible for representing the United States in criminal appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and for providing the Office legal guidance on complex and significant issues of federal criminal law.
- →Attorneys in the Division prepare and file appellate briefs and present oral argument before the Fourth Circuit addressing a wide range of matters including constitutional challenges to convictions, statutory issues of first impression, sentencing challenges, and appeals from trials.
- →Appellate AUSAs also advise the United States Attorney and criminal AUSAs on emerging legal issues, ensure consistency in the Office's legal positions, and contribute to the development of federal criminal law within the Circuit.
- →Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required to meet the operational needs of the Office.
- →With continued training and experience, you will assume more advanced duties and increasingly complex assignments Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
