About the Role
The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) Medical Specialty & Special Programs supports the Nurse Manager (NM) Medical Specialty & Special Programs in overseeing operations of Medical Specialty, Special Programs and Home Based Primary Care. This role combines clinical proficiency with leadership responsibilities and is often considered part of the succession plan for future NM positions, providing opportunities to develop management skills and prepare for higher-level leadership.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or overseeing direct patient care.
- →Ensures compliance with standards of clinical practice.
- →Serves as a key liaison between staff and leadership.
- →Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →Demonstrates sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- →Self-directed and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives.
- →Responsible and accountable for the direction and oversight of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
- →Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader.
- →Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
- →Independently carrying out the expectations of a NM on a routine basis.
- →Exercises the authority to direct work, assign duties, evaluate employee performance, recommend employee awards, approve or deny leave, recall employees to duty, propose discipline, and to adjust their grievances, or to effectively recommend such proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision.
- →Serving as hiring official during the recruitment process for employees under their direct supervision.
- →Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
