About the Role

The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic performs tasks involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Martinsburg VAMC Utilities Plants and the buildings these utilities serve.

What You'll Do

  • Maintains plant logbooks, records, and ensures proper communication of information to the incoming Operator, Supervisor, Operations and maintenance foreman, and the Service Chief.
  • Submits, completes, and closes work orders to document maintenance, repairs, and installations.
  • Conducts comprehensive troubleshooting and diagnostics on all equipment, implementing necessary repairs as required.
  • Repairs will encompass a range of activities, including but not limited to, rebuilding pumps, replacing components such as mechanical seals, bearings, valves, pipe fittings, and motors.
  • Tasks will involve repairing insulation, re-packing valves, and re-piping systems, as well as performing other repairs as directed by the Plant Supervisor.
  • Conducts all operations safely and efficiently.
  • Performs proper operations, preventative maintenances, repairs, and new installation equipment and systems as determined by the Service Chief, Operation and Maintenance Foreman, Plant Supervisor, policy, directives, procedures, and State and Federal laws.
  • Interprets blueprints and diagrams related to pneumatic and electronic controls, schematic drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and literature, as well as piping plans and specifications for servicing and operating equipment.
  • Selects and utilizes hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment effectively during assignments and repairs to include, but not limited to PH meters, conductivity meters, manometers, dial indicators, voltage testers, multimeters, continuity testers, cable tracers, rotation meters, and Megohmmeters.
  • Conduct hourly inspections of equipment, recording readings as required by policies and procedures.
  • Work Schedule: 12 hour rotating schedule Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD25242A Physical Requirements: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions.
  • The incumbent carries, lifts and handles parts weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requirements
