About the Role
The primary purpose of the Emergency Department RN is to demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies to patients assigned to this unit where conditions and treatment are for ambulatory, acute, and critical care.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties, include, but are not limited to: Demonstrating clinical expertise in performing initial medical history and assessment.
- →Care planning to include discharge planning, pain management.
- →Use of Bar Code Administration (BCMA), Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), and Emergency Department Integration Software (EDIS).
- →Patient education.
- →Telemetry monitoring.
- →Point of care management.
- →Blood workups.
- →Respiratory distress management.
- →Cardiac emergency care/ resuscitation, and stroke management.
- →Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triaging.
- →Implementation of advanced triage order sets, and management of Emergency Department throughput metrics.
- →Demonstrates clinical proficiency and leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others such as patients, their family members/ significant other and members of the interdisciplinary team.
- →Identifies an issue, analyze it, develop and implement interventions.
- →Completes initial assessments and reassessments of patient condition and response to treatment.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
