About the Role
The Surgical Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but not limited to: Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal specialty care.
- →The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self direction.
- →This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.
- →Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments and Veteran goals of care.
- →Seeks guidance on how to improve care provided to patients and families.
- →Delegates elements of care to the appropriate individual based upon assessed needs, condition, and safety of the patient.
- →The nurse brings principles and theory with the application of critical thinking skills.
- →Responsible for providing competent, evidenced-based specialty care to assigned surgical and non-surgical patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the clinic setting.
- →The nurse is required to provide post-op care, wound care, or any other nursing interventions as permitted by the governing licensing authorities and/or Veteran Health Administration.
- →The nurse must train and maintain competency in set-up and break down of minor procedures.
- →The nurse will order labs, supplies, and prosthetic items per nursing protocol policy.
- →In addition, the nurse will be expected to float to other areas as needed and is required to have basic knowledge and competency in that area.
- →We provide you with health care services at 12 locations serving east central Florida.
- →Facilities include our Orlando VA Medical Center and 11 community-based outpatient clinics in Clermont, Daytona Beach, Deltona, Kissimmee, Orlando, Palm Bay, Port Orange, Tavares, Viera, and Winter Park.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
